Eyeglasses for Busy Folks...

As we talked about for students, busy parents on-the-go shouldn't have to worry about the latest trends in eye wear.  Functional, basic but stylish eyeglasses will do the trick.

Women might like to coordinate silver and gold-tone with jewelry.  Also, for this singular pair, select eye-flattering lens shapes.

Next post we'll talk about high-fashion eye wear!

Leisure Eye Wear...

Leisure eye wear is fun!  For your more active life on the weekends, your conservative  work glasses are the wrong choice.  Think comfort and fit, especially for strenuous activities.  Sturdier frames are a must for

Think about sunglasses and UV protection while having fun on your time off.  Sporty sunglasses like I'm wearing will go well for a beach outing, cruising, cycling, even a tennis match!  Get polarized lenses to fight glare, especially for water sports, and be sure they are unbreakable lenses.

Note that these sunglasses wrap-around the sides of my head protecting me from the sun's harmful rays at all angles.  Plus, they are colorful and stylish in my bright, neon colors!  These come in all sorts of patterns, too.

Lastly, consider a colorful tint!  My mom had yellow ones for driving at night, and grey for painting to see colors as they are.  I like mirror sunglasses.. have to get me a pair!

Eyeglasses in the Workplace...

Choosing eye wear for the working environment is tricky.  I shudder to think of Elton John eyeglasses on my vet, a surgeon or president of a financial institution... but I so look up to the man with his fantastic sense of fashion and style, and his enormous talent!

For the office, stay professional.  Be conservative with your frame shapes and colors. Classic shapes - ovals, rectangles and almonds - never really go out of fashion.

Think traditional frames in gold, silver, brown, gray or black.  And I'd skip the plastic frames unless they are mega-conservative in low-key colors and the basic lens shapes I already mentioned.  Doesn't make you want to go to work, does it?!

Studious Eyeglasses...

Whether you're studying computer technology or art history, auto mechanics or French cuisine, during your college years is when you will first develop your eye wear sense.

Practically speaking, sturdy, larger size glasses are best but, this is also a time in your life when you are not ruled by the workplace.  You can be a little more creative.  You can try more eye-catching colors and shapes.

My glasses are pink metal, with large lenses so I don't miss anything!  They are also light on my face as I will have to wear them a good part of the day!  You will fit right in if you want a geeky, genius look or a retro, librarian style!  I say go all out in these formative years... go for color and pizazz, or be intellectual...

Choosing Eyeglasses

To determine the right pair of eyeglasses for you - and you may want more than one pair, like shoes - consider the different areas of your life.

You can choose eyeglasses for the sole purpose of seeing better, or you can create an ambiance and air about yourself.  What activities do you participate in - skydive, bicycling, football/baseball/hockey, pianist/musician, painting, dog walking (I like that one), horseback riding, skiing...?  What kind of work do you do - retired, student, teacher, engineer, bank president, nurse, trucker, cashier, beauty consultant, computer wizard, Harry Potter?   My mom has an artist friend that has multiple pair of eyeglasses that coordinate with her wardrobe... such fun!

So, do you want to appear sophisticated or do you want a more conservative style?  Do you want one that's youthful and fun loving, or are you very style-conscious and haute couture?  What about glitz and fashion trends?  Choosing the right eye wear will help shape how you are perceived!  'One Size Does Not Fit All'!  I prefer the dignified look myself... at least in this pair of glasses.

The multitude of eye wear at the opticians is overwhelming without a plan.  So have these basic things in mind when you choose:  style, color, material and size, and select them based on your lifestyles and activities.

Next post I'll talk about some specific styles and uses for eyeglasses...

Weight Watchers for My Biscuit!

Dixie here... I'm outside on my porch chair!

The Biscuit went to the vet for a check-up this morning. (And I was home alone!  More about that later!)  The Biscuit gained almost 3 pounds since March!  Our vet says The Biscuit has to go on Weight Watchers!!!  It's really mom's fault - she put us on a new brand of natural and holistic food.  The one we were on was natural and holistic, too - don't know why she changed.

So The Biscuit can only have 3 small Milkbone biscuits a day... and then carrots or apples.  And his portions for breakfast and supper have been cut down.  I'm sleek, muscular and naturally thin... he's a porker!

The vet did say he had great teeth... (probably because we chew those deer antlers from Scalawags Pet Boutique) and he has a beautiful blond coat... and a sweet personality... and he's a good boy... I love my chubby Biscuit

Stealing Biscuit's Antler...

Dixie here... The Biscuit carries his antler around the house to keep me from chewing it now... but I distract him, bark at him and steal it!

Antler Chews...

Dixie here...
Well, I can sign in to my blog again...

Mom and dad got My Biscuit and me new antlers to chew on at Scalawags Pet Boutique. Mom loves for us to have the Lucky Buck antlers.  They are safer than bones - they don't splinter, and aside from being long-lasting, they are nutritional.  The antlers are a good source of calcium and minerals.  And the thing mom likes the best is that no deer were harmed in the collection of these antlers; they are naturally shed!

The thing My Biscuit and I like best is that we get to chew them!

Beautiful Weather...

Dixie here...

It's been great weather lately for going outside... the grass is green and the dandelions are growing.  Little critters hide in the leafy bushes and trees -but I can sniff them out!  I've got a great nose!

Speaking of dog noses... Dog noses are part of the dog's skin, and is made of three layers of integument ( I read a lot...) rather than the five layers like on other parts of their body. It looks really tough and thick like leather.  The outer layer of cells on the nose is called the stratum corneum (horny layer). The grooves on the surface give it a textured appearance, and this texture is unique to every animal, just like fingerprints are unique in humans.

Cowboy Hats...

My dad in one of his white felt cowboy hats... Bailey's

My 'brother' is on the left, his son in the center, and then the best man...

Dixie here... there's nothing more handsome than a man in a cowboy hat!  That well-worn, rugged cowboy that tamed the West... or not!  I wonder how The Biscuit would look in a cowboy hat?  (Check back tomorrow to see!)

My dad's been wearing cowboy hats since he was young.  He's had black velvet ones, white straw Stetsons, leather ones and now he's back to wearing the felt in bone color.  He has 2 different brands...

One is a Bailey (and he likes it because of the cowgirls in the lining!).  'Bailey Hat Company makes high-quality hats in the finest tradition of western hatters.' (I got that from their wesbite!) Felt cowboy hats are differentiated by the quality of beaver pelts specified by the number of x's or fur content, and the style.  My dad likes the brim curved up on the sides and a 4" height.

My dad also has a felt Stetson. Made in Texas, Stetson hats are the most well known hats in the world, and they are one of the largest in the country their classic styling and premium quality set the standard in cowboy hats!  (according to their wesbite!)

My 'brother' had a cowboy theme at his wedding. He and all his groomsmen wore them - a fine looking group!

Not sure whether I'll continue with my hat fashion trends or switch to a new topic... check back and see!  And, get a peak at The Biscuit in a cowboy hat!
